    Description

    The Shiraz Viognier blend is well-established in Australia and particularly the Canberra District where it has acquired an outstanding reputation. An extended ripening period for our Shiraz this year, reminiscent of the early years of the district in the 80-90s when harvest often went into late April. This results in intense flavours, higher acidity and elevated tannic compounds so with this in mind we went back to more traditional wine making methods and tempered skin contact so as to avoid excessive tannin extraction. Co- fermented with 5 % Viognier (also grown at our estate vineyard) we continue to be amazed by the results of this – the small addition of Viognier lifts the aromatics and vibrancy of the wine while contributing a silkiness to the palate. This is balanced by the refreshing acidity present in cool-climate Shiraz which stops the wine from being too cloying. 22 months maturation in French Oak added the finishing touches to this amazing wine.
