2015 Merlot

Canberra District, New South Wales

One of our 12 wines of Christmas only available till 24th December or while stocks last. Our debut vintage! Merlot tends to be lower in tannins and acidity than Cabernet and as this wine shows, this makes it more luscious and silky on the palate. The wine has matured beautifully with earthy, cloves and fruitcake like flavours and a smooth velvety finish. Available for tasting at the cellar door on the 1-3 December.

    Description

Re-released for Christmas from our private cellar stock, only available till 24th December or while stocks last.

Although often dubbed as a blending partner for Cabernet (particularly in Australia), Merlot deserves recognition in its own right. This is evident in the distinctive Merlots produced in California and Bordeaux but Australia has been slower to recognise the merits of this delicious grape. The name Merlot is said to derive from merle—the French word for the blackbird, likely a reference to the colour of the grape.
